A "Game of Like" : Online Social Network Sharing As Strategic Interaction

چکیده
We argue that behavioral science models of online content-sharing overlook the role strategic interactions between users. Borrowing from accuracy-nudges studies decision-theoretic models, we propose a basic game model and explore special cases with idealized parameter settings to identify refinements necessary capture real-world social network behavior. Examining Online Poker as a Social Network
Data in the form of approximately 5 million No Limit Texas Hold’em hand histories collected from the online poker website PokerStars.com is used to model a game playing social network. Each player represents a node in the network, and weighted, directed edges represent the flow of money from the source to the target node, where the weight is equal to the amount of money transferred, normalized ...
متن کاملFirefighting as a Strategic Game
The Firefighter Problem was proposed in 1995 [25] as a deterministic discrete-time model for the spread and containment of a fire. The problem is defined on an undirected finite graph G = (V,E), where initially fire breaks out at f nodes. In each subsequent time-step, two actions occur: A certain number b of firefighters are placed on nonburning nodes, permanently protecting them from the fire....
متن کاملKnowledge Sharing in Social Network Using Game Theory
Stimulating is an important mechanism in Virtual Community (VC) during the Knowledge Sharing (KS) process. In this paper, we combine the power of game theory and stimulating mechanism together to optimize the KS process in Social Network (SN). We first model the basic stimulating mechanism as a static game of complete information, under which the stimulating threshold for Nash Equilibrium (NE) ...
متن کاملRhythms of social interaction: messaging within a massive online network
We have analyzed the fully-anonymized headers of 362 million messages exchanged by 4.2 million users of Facebook, an online social network of college students, during a 26 month interval. The data reveal a number of strong daily and weekly regularities which provide insights into the time use of college students and their social lives, including seasonal variations. We also examined how factors...
متن کاملSocial Network Formation and Strategic Interaction in Large Networks*
I present a dynamic network formation model that aims to explain why some empirical degree distributions exhibit the increasing hazard rate property (IHRP). In my model, a sequentially arriving node forms a link with one existing node through a bilateral agreement. A newborn node prefers a highly linked node; however, the more links an existing node has, the more the marginal return from an add...
